What?

These are open meetups for anyone interested in a reform of the monetary system and surrounding culture for social good.  In short, our aim is to change the system to one that benefits the many, rather than the few.  We get together in pubs and talk about how to do this.  Anyone is welcome, although we do have a left-leaning slant and we’re more interested in progress than theoretical debate.

How?

After the last couple of meetups with a theoretical focus, we’re moving towards practical matters. (more…)

Loxley II Write-up

As promised, now my hangover is wearing off, I’m getting round to writing up last night’s meet-up. I can’t promise to remember everything, because I’d had a few pints, but I’ll do my best.

We had a brief discussion on ideology and although we don’t all agree 100% on every detail, I think we do all wish to move in the same general direction. (more…)

Loxley II

So, following on from a previous meetup between a few of us revolutionaries (held down in Wakefield), we’ve decided to hold a second event, in Leeds.  For those currently out of the loop, these are open meetups for anyone interested in a reform of the monetary system and surrounding culture for social good.  In short, our aim is to change the system to one that benefits the many, rather than the few. Loxley I

Decided it might be easier to write a quick blog post than try to say too much on twitter!

Okay, so here’s the deal.  Ivor and I have decided to organise a little meet up to discuss the state of the world, how to fix it and also to drink a lot of beer.  Think of it as saving the world and killing your liver at the same time.  We’ve now had a surprisingly good response after announcing at Bettakultcha (even after my presentation), so here goes:

The first meet-up is already planned for Thursday the 22nd of this month (this Thursday), some time in the evening.  It’ll be at a pub in Wakefield.

If that goes well and people actually attend then we might do another one.  We’ll see how things go – whether we generate some good ideas or get into a fight with some neo-nazis Tories. (more…)

Plant!

I would write fiction all the time when I was younger.  These days, a lack of anger management has led my keyboard down a path of verbally bludgeoning others with logic.  I guess in a way, non-fiction is easier: you just need to be fluent and factually-correct, but I still like the idea of writing fiction… even if my vocabulary fails to keep up with my imagination.

Let me know what you think.  I might write a second part if someone actually likes this.

In Defense of Bettakultcha and Killing Amy

Last night I attended Bettakultcha event, hosted at the Leeds Student Union.  It was a fantastic night and as far as I could see from where I was sitting, went pretty smoothly.  Then, once home, I made the potential mistake of opening up Tweekdeck to the #bettakultcha hashtag.  There I discovered, a perhaps dying horse, that I shall give one last flogging to.

Between presentations last night, a short film was shown.  At least, it was attempted to be shown, since about half way through it finally gave up due to technical difficulties.  As far as I could see at the time, there was nothing in the film that was outrageous or beyond mildly controversial. Why I won’t be going back to BT…

I recently terminated my contract with BT after a long struggle to do so. The following email, which finally allowed me to cancel, details my trouble up to that point and the reason BT, despite managing to get an extra year out of me by force, have now ensured that I will never be a customer of theirs again.
